Celebrating heroes in Salem
Himself a reserve officer in Saint Anthony, Idaho, and a sworn sheriff’s deputy in Frederick County, Virginia, Dean Cain has long championed public safety forces workers like police officers and firefighters as “the real heroes out there saving lives every day,” and took time to introduce himself to and celebrate several of Salem’s own superheroes Saturday. Pictured from left are Dean Cain, Mayor Cyndi Baronzzi Dickey, Patrolman Mike Garber and his partner K-9 Simon, Fire Department Captain Shawn Mesler, Firefighter and EMT Michael Gensamer, and Patrolman Steve LaRosa and his partner K-9 Argo. Amongst those in attendance Saturday was Police Chief J.T. Panezott, who is pictured giving stickers to one of many junior officers who received their “badge” Saturday. (Photo by Morgan Ahart)
Amongst the many children who had the opportunity to learn more about the city’s safety and service forces was 7-year-old Rilynn Chipps, who got a taste of what the parks department’s mowers are like with the assistance of Parks Director Shane Franks and Parks Commission President John Panezott. Several members of the community took the opportunity to sit in and learn about the city’s exciting and unique equipment, like 4-year-old Dominik Taralli, who learned about the mini-backhoe with the help of Tony Maniscalco. (Photo by Morgan Ahart)
