EAST PALESTINE -- The Village of East Palestine filed suit in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court this week, regarding a condemned structure in the village.

The suit names EP Management LLC as the defendant and alleges the company owns a single-family residence located at 571 E. Taggart St. which the East Palestine Village and Zoning Inspector condemned due to its condition.

The lawsuit further alleges that a notice of the order was sent to the defendant at its listed P.O. address in Negley via certified mail in June of 2021 and that EP Management took no action to remediate the structural deficiencies.

A notice of intention to demolish the structure was next mailed in June of 2023 to the defendant, the county treasurer and the Ohio Attorney General's office. According to the complaint, both the county and the state have filed tax liens against the property, and neither have objected to the demolition. The defendant reportedly responded to the notice to demolish, threatening legal action for the value of the home and materials purchased to repair the structure.

The complaint asks to grant the village permission to demolish the structure and a judgment against EP Management for all costs associated with the demolition.
