SALEM – City council tabled a proposed new resolution in a brief meeting Tuesday.
The resolution, the only item on the agenda for the meeting, would have authorized Mayor Cyndi Baronzzi Dickey to negotiate and enter into contracts for the purpose of providing dispatch services to other political subdivisions. Councilman Andrew Null, who also introduced the resolution, made an immediate motion to table the it until further notice.
Dickey explained that the resolution related to matters discussed in a recent executive session, and that the matter it addressed was now potentially moot.
"Without revealing what was done in executive session, the issue right now is possibly not in play, so there's not really a need to pass that tonight," said Dickey.
Dickey also noted that with only five members in attendance, with the excused absences of councilmen Jake Gano and Evan Newman, statutory rules could not be waived to pass that evening, and that there "was no rush" to approve the resolution.
When asked for further clarification, Dickey said she was not at liberty to discuss the matter in further detail at that time.
During her report Dickey announced that the city will be holding its annual trick-or-treat from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31, and that the city was currently working on raises for non-bargaining employees in preparation to finalize and present the city's budget for council approval prior to the start of the new year.
In his report City Treasurer Todd Mumpire announced the city's annual rebate from the Regional Income Tax Agency (RITA) for 2022 was $116,028. Each year the city pays an estimated price for a portion of RITA's cost to collect and process the year's income taxes and is later reimbursed for the difference between this projected expense and the actual expense for the year.
During the reports of standing committees Councilman Jeff Stockman announced the rules and ordinances committee will be meeting at 6 p.m. prior to council's next meeting Oct. 3 to discuss the verbiage of the city's animal ordinance and membership of the ambulance review board.
