St. Paul School honored for excellence

St. Paul School in Salem and three of its teachers were just awarded the Ohio Governor's Thomas Edison Award for Excellence in STEM Education for the 2022-2023 school year.
Only 48 schools in Ohio received this prestigious honor. The awards are presented annually by the Ohio Academy of Science.
This past year 32 students participated in the St. Paul School local science fair. Four students with top scores competed at the District Science Days (District 15). All four received awards and Superior Ratings at Youngstown State University.
All four advanced and participated in the State Science Day online. Sophia Bender and Giancarlo Corallo received Excellent Ratings, and Jack Brown and Aaron Rea received Superior Ratings. Brown and Rea went on to participate in the State Science Showcase at the Ohio State University. Aaron Rea received two awards there.
Teacher recipients were: Heather Livesay (5th grade), Teresa Sisson (6th Grade), and Darby Hall (Art/STREAM).
St. Paul School is an Ohio STEM-designated school. The school hosted other STEM events and participated in other activities throughout this past year -- Including the OSLN STEM Design Challenge where the St. Paul School fifth graders won for creativity.
In March, the school featured a "Plasma Ball" community science night and a "Bunny Hop: Egg Science" community event.
"I am extremely proud of our STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) learning ecosystem here at St. Paul School, as well as our students' accomplishments this year at local, district, and state STEM-related events," said Principal, Dr. Jacqueline Mumford. "We look forward to building on these successes. We are very fortunate to have such wonderful and supportive teachers, staff, families, and community members who help make these active-learning, inquiry-based activities possible."
