In coordination with the Trail of Treats, a costume contest sponsored by the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce Marketing Sponsors and the Salem Public Library was held prior to the event. The costume contest welcomed over 50 participants where winners were chosen in the following categories: Best Costume-Adult, Best Costume-Child, Funniest Costume, Most Creative Costume, and Scariest Costume. The winners who received a $50 prize are pictured left to right: Kinley Gfeller (Most Creative), Jillian Carlisle (Best Costume - Child), Larissa Burgess (Best Costume - Adult), Liam Jordan (Scariest Costume) and Violet Sheen (Funniest Costume). D.T. Moore & Company’s “Big Top Circus Tent” was awarded second-place Best Display.
First place for Best Display went to “Willy Wonka,” presented by First Christian Church.
Harmony Thompson, who will turn 10 on Saturday, came as Wednesday Addams.

Hundreds of children followed a trail of treats Sunday afternoon at Waterford Memorial Park in Salem. The event was sponsored by the Salem Parks and Recreation Dept. and Eyes for Olivia.
