PERRY TOWNSHIP -- The board of trustees discussed a pair of nuisance properties in the township in its meeting Monday.
Zoning Inspector Jeffrey Christopher updated trustees on the property at 1222 Cleveland Ave., which trustees unanimously voted to designate as a nuisance property in their Aug. 28 meeting for failure to address high grass violations. Christopher said that the property had since been sold to a neighbor who addressed the high grass violations and was taking steps to remediate other issues on the property. Christopher said the new owners had dumpsters in place and were cleaning out the residence at the property, noting that they may be planning to demolish the residence, but he had not confirmed this.
Trustees also discussed the property at 343 Georgetown Road, which also has ongoing grass violations. Christopher said that an official letter requesting the grass be mowed had already been sent, and that he had received no response from the property owner, nor had action been taken to address the violation. Christopher also said that he was reaching out to zoning departments in East Palestine and Smith Township to see how they addressed similar cases. Trustees voted
unanimously to designate the property as a nuisance.
Financial matters approved included the purchase of a garage door for the township's south station from Garage Door Openers and Doors for $3,393, which will be paid for using NOPEC funding; and approval of a resolution authorizing Trustee Chairman Steve Bailey to prepare and submit an application to participate in the Ohio Public Works Commission State Capital Improvement and/or Local Transportation Improvement Programs and to execute contracts as required for the Painter Road project.
Trustees also announced that the township will hold Trick-or-Treat from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31.
The board of trustees will meet next at 4 p.m. Oct. 23.
