SALEM -- A pursuit in Salem Thursday evening led to two arrests.
Police Chief J.T. Panezott said that as part of an active investigation into individuals known to be involved with drug trafficking, a traffic stop was attempted by the Columbiana County Sheriff's Office on a vehicle at the state Route 45 bypass, which then fled. Panezott said that the vehicle fled into Salem and a Salem officer was able to deploy a Stop Stick, deflating at least one of the fleeing vehicle's tires, with the pursuit concluding on Depot Road.
Panezott said that suspected methamphetamines and U.S. currency which had been thrown from the vehicle during the pursuit had been recovered and that two arrests had been made, but that he did not know their names at that time.
"I'm very proud of everyone that was involved. It was executed safely, the bad guys are in jail, and they were able to take some drugs off the street," said Panezott.
The Columbiana County Sheriff's Office confirmed their involvement in the pursuit; however, no further information was available when contacted Monday evening.
