‘Banjoman’ to perform in East Liverpool

EAST LIVERPOOL -- Marty "Banjoman" Liebschner is presenting the program "From Music to Movies" at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Historical 1876 Thompson House of East Liverpool, where he volunteered from 1986 to 1988. The house is located at 305 Walnut St. in the heart of downtown.
Liebschner, a 1988 graduate of Beaver Local High School, works for the Virginia State Parks as a chief ranger at James River State Park.
His interest in the banjo began in 1989. He also plays five other instruments and has an extensive musical repertoire. In 1854 New York newspaper editor Horace Greeley popularized the phrase "Go West, young man, and grow up with the country," which could easily be applied to Liebschner's life. His experiences and various interests led him to Hollywood where he held many different positions for productions such as soundtrack work, horse riding, stunt and car driver, special effects, small stunts, military coordinator, set construction and historic advisor.
His professional entertainment career began in 1992 and spanned well over a decade of appearances and involvement on screen and behind the scenes work, including feature music on the movie soundtrack "Ride with the Devil" with the singer and actor Jewel.

During his career, the "Banjoman" has worked with many well-known actors including John Travolta, Sam Elliott, Tom Berenger, Thomas Wilson, Martin Sheen, Jeff Daniels and Gary Busey.
Seating is limited. East Liverpool Historical Society members attend for free, and all other admission is $10. Venmo payment is accepted at @Thompson-House-1876 (4880 if prompted for additional digits) or pay at the door. All proceeds go toward the maintenance and upkeep of the 147-year-old Victorian mansion which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Also, Saturday, Dec. 2 is the Christmas light up night and parade for the city. There will be an open house with tours at the seasonally decorated Thompson House from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.
