Full day of events set at Saturday’s Snowflake Festival in East Palestine

EAST PALESTINE -- Christmas decorations went up in East Palestine this week as the village sets the stage for the annual Snowflake Festival. The event, sponsored by the East Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce Palestine, will take place Saturday.

The all-day event begins at 9 a.m. with Breakfast with Santa at the Community Center located within the East Palestine City Park and ends with the Christmas parade on North Market at 7 p.m.

The pancake-and-sausage breakfast is put on by the East Palestine Rotary Club. Guests of all are invited to breakfast from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and encouraged to bring their own to take pictures with Santa. Cookies with Samta will also be served at the Community Center from noon to 2 p.m.

Other village-wide festivities include a Santa's Secret Workshop (9 am. to 3 p.m.) in the elementary school gym, a large-scale train display (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) at the First Church of Christ, a gingerbread contest (10 a.m. to 5 p.m)at the East Palestine Library, and downtown horse-drawn trolley (noon to 4 p.m).

The Chamber will again offer the popular Snowflake Trail/Scavenger Hunt. Participants are asked to stop in at Snowflake Headquarters in the Village Municipal Building, located at 85 North Market St. and pick up a scavenger hunt/trail map and program to visit the stops along the Snowflake Trail. This year's trail features over 36 stops and 36 prizes donated by the local businesses. Prizes include gift baskets and gift certificates. A completed Snowflake Trail/Scavenger Hunt form must be returned to Snowflake Headquarters by 4:15 PM to be eligible for a prize.

Community caroling will take place in front of Snowflake Headquarters at 6 p.m. and a Kid's Station -- a designated spot for children crafts and snacks -- will be open all day next to the municipal building.

Ozer Ministries (407 North Market Street) will hold its annual gift basket raffle and visitors and residents are also invited to visit Christmas Tree Lane -- a decorated display -- at 31 North Market Street.

Covington Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation and Threshold Residential Services will also join in the village-wide event. Covington, located at 100 Covington Drive, will host "A Winter Vendor Show" from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Threshold will hold a "Holiday in the Garden" from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.in its sensory garden at 71 West Taggart Street. Pictures with Santa and hot chocolate will be available.

All attendees are encouraged to take advantage of holiday specials at village shops and restaurants.
