New plow truck ready to go in Perry Township

PERRY TOWNSHIP -- Perry Township's newest plow truck is ready to serve the township ahead of winter.

The purchase of the Freightliner truck and steel bed and plowing equipment from Stoops Freightliner and Kalida Body Equipment, respectively, at a total cost of approximately $180,000 was approved by trustees in February. The truck is now officially ready for service in time for this year's winter season, and well equipped to handle the rigors of keeping township roads clear and safe.

Trustee Tony Ierepoli said that the truck has a 350 horsepower Cummins diesel engine and can carry 10 tons of material at a time. It is replacing the dpeartment's previous truck, which was puchased in 2001.

Ierepoli also said that the bed has a vibrator installed that helps to break up and disperse any clumping in material like road treatment materials or asphalt, and to spread it more smoothly in its wake. Ierepoli said that the truck also features automatic tire chains that can be deployed and removed to the truck's tires at the push of a button when needed for additional grip, and a heated windshield and mirrors.
