Salem Community Pantry unveils new mural

1 min read

The Salem Community Pantry recently unveiled a new mural on its Third Street facade. The pantry has been slowly renovating the nearly 100-year-old building over the last few years. This mural may be a small step in that ongoing effort, but it's one that makes a huge impact. Visitors to the pantry are now welcomed in by a cheerful painted shop window filled with fruits, vegetables, canned goods, dairy products, and more. "This painting makes such a difference to the pantry, not just to the appearance of the building itself, but to the people who shop here and to the volunteers that work so hard here. I've seen patrons get out of line just to snap photos of the mural. They talk about it. They're proud of it. We're all very proud of it," said pantry director Marya Moore. The mural was painted by local artist and Salem Community Pantry Board Treasurer Rose Converse, and her sister, local artist Peggy Sanor. (Submitted photos)
