FRANKLIN SQUARE -- Salem Township trustees discussed the relocation of a gas line in its meeting Tuesday.
Trustees said that following a building recently being torn down, there was a gas meter exposed in the alley near the township garage that trustees are concerned risks being hit by a car. Fiscal Officer Dale Davis said that following evaluation by Columbia Gas it had been determined that moving the meter would require a new tap, with an estimated cost of $2,350.
Roads Foreman Jason Entrikin and trustees both questioned the necessity of a new tap-in, with Trustee John Wilms noting that previous discussions estimating the cost at $1,000. While trustees said they felt relocating the meter was necessary, it was ultimately decided that the trustees and Entrikin would contact Columbia Gas to discuss the location for the new meter.
Davis also told trustees that the township's monthly health insurance premium would be increasing by 2%, which would represent an increase of $80.
In his report Constable Dan Valentine said that he had completed the police department's recertification through the Ohio Attorney General and Governor's Office, and that he had completed his annual 24-hours of state mandated training. Valentine also said that crashes were still occurring in the township more frequently than usual, and he wasn't sure what was causing the increase.
The board of trustees will meet next at 7 p.m. Nov. 14.
