LISBON -- A Salem woman charged for allegedly failing to stop after the pickup she was driving struck a pedestrian who then died last year is set to face a jury trial on March 25.
Patricia Lynn Phillips, 29, Vine Street, appeared Monday in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court for a status hearing, accompanied by her defense attorney Lynn Maro. The state was represented by county Assistant Prosecutor Steve Yacovone.
Patricia Phillips was charged with failure to stop after an accident, a third-degree felony, for allegedly failing to immediately stop after striking 46-year-old Brandy Lynn Lasky on state Route 344 on March 11, 2022. Lasky died while walking in the westbound lane of the road after midnight. Patricia Phillips allegedly left the scene and Lasky was found unresponsive with a head wound.
A jury trial had been scheduled to being Monday, but Maro filed a motion for a continuance that was granted by Judge Scott Washam, who instead held the status hearing to set new dates.
An interim status hearing was set for 8:30 a.m. Jan. 4, with a final status hearing set for 1 p.m. March 11.
According to the indictment, Patricia Phillips was operating a 2005 Ford F-350 registered to Brandon Seddon when the accident occurred.
Also charged related to the accident was Brandy Phillips, 30, Granite Street, Salem, who was indicted for obstructing justice, a fifth-degree felony, related to her alleged actions that day. A status hearing is set for 10 a.m. Dec 11 in her case, with a trial set for Dec. 20
