2 min read

The West Branch Local School district celebrated Veterans Day Friday by holding a morning assembly at the high school and an afternoon assembly at the middle school along with a breakfast for veterans on Monday at the Early Learning Center. On Friday, veterans were invited to join the high school student body as they listened to the history of Veterans Day along with performances by the West Branch Band and Choir. Principal Brain Coffee recounted a story of his uncle who served in World War II. The West Branch multimedia class presented a video honoring students and staff who have members of their family who previously served or currently serve in the military. In the afternoon, the middle school held an assembly to honor all who have served. The assembly featured "The Star-Spangled Banner" performed by the fifth and sixth-grade Small Ensemble, as well as songs by the fourth-grade music class. "God Bless America" was played by the sixth-grade band. The featured guest speaker was U.S. Army Sergeant Major (Retired) Thomas McMillan Jr. who spoke about what it means to be a veteran. He took questions from the young audience. On Monday morning, the Early Learning Center held a "Breakfast with the Brave" event welcoming over 90 veterans to the ELC gym. K-2 students invited active or retired veterans to have breakfast with them. The West Branch Parent Activities Committee (PAC) provided breakfast and decorated the gym for the event.
