COLUMBIANA -- The Crestview School District is in the preliminary stages of a potential athletic facility in the future.
The board of education approved legislation authorizing for the advertising for the design and build of an athletic complex, to be built outside of the new K-12 campus construction.
District Superintendent Dan Hill said that the district is in the early stages of the project and is gaining input in the best manner to proceed.
"It will be a design/build structure to house any features we don't put into the new school," he said. "We are very early in the decision making process."
He added there are no financial or structural plans just yet.
As for the K-12 construction project, the district has moved from the design and documentation phase to the construction phase.
In other matters, over the last two months the board has approved the five-year financial forecast, showing that the district will remain financially stable through fiscal year 2028; and accepted several grants, amounting to over $1.4 million.
According to district reports, grants awarded were for ESSER III ($869,623); Title I ($195,007); Title II A ($27,071); Title IV A ($16,102); Cafeteria Equipment ($1,025); Stronger Connections Ohio ($10,430); and K-12 Safety ($173,775); Bus purchase ($87,948); ARP Homeless ($16,500); and OneNet Ohio ($5,400).
The district also accepted the Bonnie Hoppel grant in the amount of $1,000 and a donation of $80 from Dan Hill and his wife, for the purchase of game balls.
Donations were also accepted from Hilcorp Energy in the amount of $15,000 to the permanent improvement fund and $429 from the Crestview Athletic Boosters toward the spirit bus for the recent volleyball tournament game.
The board also approved supplemental contracts for Ashley Bartholomew as elementary school detention monitor, Rachel Lattanzio as student council advisor, and Kory Whitacre as seventh grade boys basketball coach. Pupil activity contracts were awarded to Donna Finch, high school varsity assistant girls basketball coach, Kendall Hancox, middle school seventh and eighth grade winter sport cheerleading advisor, Issac Ricketss, high school varsity assistant wrestling coach and Candi Smith, elementary school detention monitor.
Hill and some members of the school board also discussed their attendance at the Ohio School Board Association annual conference, in which they learned about school safety, recruiting and retention of staff, strategic planning and student engagement.
Hill also said in November that he wanted to extend his condolences to the Tusky Valley community regarding the I-70 school bus crash that occurred that month.
At the December board meeting, the board also approved the retirement notice for Barbara Lipp, elementary school teacher, effective at the end of the 2023-24 school year.
A supplemental contract was awarded to Sarah Finch, high school varsity assistant softball coach; and pupil activity contracts were awarded to Lily Marr, high school varsity and junior varsity winter sports cheerleading advisor; Edward Mellott, Jr., high school varsity assistant bowling coach, and Adam Milhoan, middle school wrestling coach.
The board also awarded the lease of land for agricultural purposes to the Yarian Family Farms in the amount of $150 an acre a year for a five year period ending on Dec. 28, 2028.
The next meeting was scheduled for 6 p.m. Jan. 10. The annual budget hearing was set for 5:45 p.m. that evening.
