GOSHEN TOWNSHIP -- The township will finish the year with a positive final balance.
As part of their annual year-end meeting Tuesday, trustees approved the final budget for 2023, which shows that the township will end the year with a slight increase to its budget. Fiscal Officer Michele Barratt said that this year's revenues, which totaled $1,938,365.84, outpaced its expenses of $1,892,872.23, and the township will have an ending balance of $908,060.44, an increase of $45,493.61 from its starting balance of $862,566.83.
Other financial matters approved included the redistribution of $288.71 from the electricity appropriations within the Police Fund to pay the department's final bills of the year, with $104.06 being moved to operating supplies, $139.65 to vehicle maintenance and $45 to training.
Police Chief John Calko also provided trustees with annual updates on the Law Enforcement and Drug Law Enforcement funds. Calko said that he Law Enforcement Fund began the year with a balance of $22,667.67 and saw revenue of $250 and total expenses of $18,617.83 for a final balance of $3,599.64; the Drug Law Enforcement Fund had a beginning balance of $6,741.93 and had $1,315 in revenue with no expenses this year, for a final balance of $8,056.93.
Other police matters included approval of the resignation of seasonal part-Time administrative assistant Yenere Martig, who Calko said took another position, and approval to seek pricing for a potential police cruiser order.
Trustees also approved three routine resolutions authorizing the fiscal officer to move allotted funds within the fund level to pay bills, and to request cash advances for the Mahoning County Auditor, and to provide healthcare premium payments for township employees.
The board of trustees will meet next at 6 p.m. Feb. 13.
