PERRY TOWNSHIP – Road Supervisor Darreck Ferrell presented Perry Township trustees with his year-end report in their meeting Monday.
Ferrell said that the township ordered roughly 100 tons of salt in 2023, had plowed four times, and cindered 16 times. Ferrell said that the department had also been called out to remove downed trees eight times and hauled away 96 loads of storm damage. Ferrell also said that this year the department had "hauled and put down 210 tons of blacktop on various roads in the township," installed 870 feet of 12-inch pipe and 12 t-joints, and crack-sealed "several roads throughout the township."
This year's leaf collection program saw 80 loads of leaves collected, while the annual Spring Cleanup filled four 40-yard dumpsters and two truckloads of recycled tires. Ferrell also said that the township had used 100 tons of salt treating roads in the last week alone.
Trustees Chairman Steve Bailey asked how much salt the township purchased for this year, and Ferrell said they ordered 400 tons, and he could order another load at any time. However, Ferrell said he was waiting to request a load of this year's salt until more of the township's current stockpile had been used up as it had started to be "clumpy." Ferrell explained that he planned to order more once the township had used roughly half of the current supply, so they had fresh material on hand while exhausting the remainder of the stockpiled material.
Ferrell and trustees also reviewed the proposed list for the 2024 chip and seal program which includes the north station parking lot, Lave Avenue, Chestnut Grove Road, Egypt Road, Painter Road, East Pine Lake Road, and Cunningham Road. Bailey said that the township may collaborate with Green Township and Salem Township for work on East Pine Lake Road and Cunningham Road, respectively. Bailey said that in total this would represent "about 4.35 miles," at an estimated cost of roughly $113,000.
The board of trustees will meet next at 4 p.m. Feb. 12.
