The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce Gallery of Art’s newest exhibition features the unique work of award-winning local artist Linda Steele and will be on display at the gallery on State Street until Feb. 1, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Steele has been creating unique acrylic paintings since 2017, prior to which she had a 35-year career designing porcelain dolls for 35 years. Steele said that each of her paintings begins with a fluid acrylic pour on the canvas, which gives them their unique backgrounds and colorations, after which she paints the rest of the elements by hand with standard acrylics. Steele said that while she sometimes knows immediately what to do with a painting, other times they wait for inspiration to strike, noting she’d had some canvases wait as long as two years.
