SALEM - The Salem Board of Education held its annual reorganizational meeting Monday.
Several board positions saw shifts in the meeting with last year's board Vice President Carol Hrvatin succeeding Dianna Barley as board president, while Barley will serve as this year's board President pro-tempore. The board vice president position will be filled by Brittany Maniscalco for 2024.
The organizational meeting also saw the board set its meeting schedule for 2024, which will continue to be held at 7 p.m. in the high school library. Meetings are set for Feb. 26, March 18, April 15, May 20, July 15, Aug. 12, Sept. 16, Oct. 21, Nov. 18 and Dec. 9.
Several other routine items were also approved as part of the organizational meeting including naming board member Greg Warner, as delegate, and Barley as alternate for the Ohio School Board Association Capital Conference; establishment of a board service fund of $10,000; motions of authorization for Treasurer Mike Douglas and Superintendent Sean Kirkland; participation in all available federally funded grants and projects; assignment of special education students in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act; appointment of Dr. Austin Frederickson as school medical director for 2024; designation of the Salem News as the district's official newspaper; meeting copy fees for 2024; membership dues for the Ohio School Boards Association of $6,467; and the tax budget for fiscal year 2025.
The board of education will meet next at 7 p.m. Feb. 26.
