LEETONIA -- Leetonia Superintendent Dennis Dunham acknowledged January as Board of Education Recognition Month and thanked the Leetonia School Board for it's continued service during the board's regular January meeting.
"I would like to thank the board members sitting here," Dunham said. "The students in the school certainly benefit from the things you do. I appreciate your leadership and the time you put in, and I'm sure I don't know the half of it, and it doesn't go unnoticed. You spend a lot of time trying to move the district forward and you're very successful at it."
Dunham also took time to acknowledge several donations accepted by the board including $8,172.22 for the school lunch account by an anonymous donor and $10,000 from Robert Hendricks for the stadium project. Other donations were $350 from Grace Church of Columbiana Ohio for the Nurse Supplemental Fund, three $100 donations to robotics in the memory of Michelle Long (Douglas and Jenny Morris, Ralph and Patricia Polite and Michael and Tracie Henderson) and a general donation of $100 from Ray and Marilyn Heddleson in memory of Gerald VanFossen.
"I can't say enough about the generosity of the people on the community and the donations we have received for various causes," Dunham said. "Any amount, whether it's small or large, is greatly appreciated and again I can't say enough about the generosity from those in the community."
In personnel matters, the board extended Casey Harris as a long-term substitute teacher 5th grade for the remainder 2023-3024 school year, approved supplemental applications for the 2023-2024 school year for James Scragg and Thomas Palmer (co-head and co-assistant baseball coaches) and Patrick Hull (volunteer boys basketball coach) and approved substitutes Rachael Simon, Jacob Melott and Cynthia DiRocco. The board also approved the Village of Leetonia Police Officers rate at $110 per sporting event worked in 2023-2024.
A contract with K Squared Marketing was renewed for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 and the College Credit Plus Master Agreement with Kent State.
The tax budget for 2024 was accepted as were several federal grants for 2025.
During the reorganizational meeting that preceded the regular meeting, the board approved John Podgurski as school attorney for the 2024 calendar year and administered the oath to Marilyn Heddleson and Michele Votaw. The board also established a service fund and appropriated $10,000 for the fund to be incorporated into the appropriations of the school district for 2024.
