PERRY TOWNSHIP – The board of trustees approved the 2024 chip and seal list in its meeting Monday.
This year's chip and seal list includes Lake Avenue, Chestnut Grove Road, Egypt Road, Painter Road and Cunningham Road, totaling just over four miles to be paved through the Columbiana County Engineer's Office at a cost of $90,996, with an additional quote from R&R Paving for blacktopping J Wilson Drive for $42,500 also approved. Trustee Tony Ieropoli said that paving is scheduled to begin July 31, but depending on weather conditions work could be up to a week early or late.
"We could be a week earlier, or we could be a week later depending on the weather, if they're on schedule or been put behind," said Ieropoli.
Ieropoli also announced that while the county would not be sending a dumpster to the township as part of its tire collection program, it would provide the township with vouchers to haul the tires to a disposal site themselves. Ieropoli said that township residents could each put up to five tires without rims out with their items for the annual spring cleanup, which would be picked up at the same time, requesting residents to stack the tired separately from the rest of their items. Ieropoli also reminded residents that the township's annual spring cleanup will begin in April. Pickup for the north side of the township will be the week of April 1, with pickup for the south side the week of April 8, with State Street as the dividing line. Highland Creek and Pembrooke Drive will be picked up separately on April 10, and that pickup is for township residents only.
Trustees also approved two motions for the fire department, including sending Jennifer Fisher to Firefighter One class at the Mahoning County Career Technical Center at a cost of $1,500, which the township will apply for reimbursement for, and to accept a $10,000 State Fire Marshal Non-Matching Grant for self-contained breathing apparatus equipment.
Trustees Chair Steve Bailey championed Fire Chief Brandon Smith's efforts and success in seeking grant funding for the department this year. Ieropoli and Trustee Jim Armeni echoed these sentiments, which Ieropoli noted were "phenomenal."
"Good for him for continuing to pursue grants. This is the second one he's gotten this year. I'm glad he's continuing to work on that," said Bailey.
Also approved was a resolution accepting amounts and rates as determined by the budget commission and authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the county auditor. Bailey explained that the resolution was not for a new levy and was simply a routine resolution the township passes each year.
"This is just our standard yearly thing we have to do," said Bailey.
Other matters approved included the Columbiana County 911 final plan and the final draft of solid waste management plan of the Carroll, Columbiana, Harrison Joint Solid Waste Management District.
The trustees will meet next at 4 p.m. April 8.
