LISBON -- Columbiana County Educational Service Center's (ESC) lease on the basement of the former Columbiana County Women, Infants & Children (WIC) building has fallen through, according to Superintendent Marie Williams.
It would cost $50,000 to get the space, located next door to the service center at 7876 Lincole Place, up to fire code-- including the installation of a fire suppression system and a water pipe to connect to Lisbon's water system, Williams explained at the governing board's regular April meeting.
The basement was going to be used for additional classrooms next school year. The administration is currently looking for another space for those, she said.
In other business, the board approved a $10,900 quote from Johnson Controls replace the supervisory network engine and install a new CGM controller for the center's HVAC/boiler system.
"The current device is at the end of its life and failing to retain memory," according to minutes of the meeting.
The board approved bills to be paid for March totaling $1,199,892.96 as well as the donation of a Shopbot BR 48 computer numerical control (CNC) manufacturing machine to the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center (CCCTC).
CCCTC Assistant Superintendent Jeremy Corbisello described the machine as a wood-cutting mill at the CCCTC Board of Education meeting Tuesday.
"We're going to use it for some senior project activities in our construction tech program," he said.
Rhiannon Smith, Peyton Smith, Danielle Hartley, Jocelyn Parrish, and Julie Sheen were hired as paraeducators for the 2023-2024 school year. Robert Williamson and Matthew Pinciaro were hired as Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities workers for this school year.
Susan Carano was hired as a preschool teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.
The board also approved the adjustment of the service center's office hours for the summer to 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting on Aug. 12.
New vendors for the Reach for the Stars Consignment Shop were approved-- Tracy Springer, Valerie Miller-Sutton, and Debra Wilson.
The next meeting of the CCESC will be held at 5 p.m. May 21.
