LISBON -- Columbiana County Commissioners approved $30,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) fund awards during its regular meeting Wednesday.
A $15,000 award was approved to purchase a 2014 Chevrolet ambulance with about 68,000 miles on it from Norfolk Southern to transport the Columbiana County Sheriff's Office SWAT team and $15,000 was awarded to the Columbiana County Jail to purchase body cameras for correctional officers from Staley Technologies.
Commissioner Tim Weigle explained after the meeting that the ambulance was acquired by Norfolk Southern after the train derailment last February, when it and one other ambulance were contaminated.
The vehicle will be decontaminated, refurbished, and made ready for use.
Also on Wednesday, commissioners re-appointed public defender commission members attorney Mark Hutson, of Columbiana, and Ron Vest, of Salem, for two-year terms.
Commissioners also certified and appropriated $1.5 million for the water and sewer department and $233,476 for the development department.
Commissioner Roy Paparodis submitted a flyer for a "Family Fun Day" that will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 15 at the Columbiana County Fairgrounds. The event is one of five regional events throughout the state sponsored by the Ohio Children's Trust Fund, through the Ohio Department of Children and Youth.

The next meeting of the Columbiana County Commissioners will be held in the board room in the downtown courthouse at 9 a.m. May 8.
