GOSHEN TOWNSHIP – The Goshen Board of Trustees approved participation in the annual Ohio Department of Transportation Salt Contract in a special meeting Monday.
In a brief special meeting, trustees voted unanimously to approve a resolution authorizing participation in the salt contract for 2024. Trustee Teresa Stratton asked Trustee Shawn Mesler if he and Road Foreman Matt Springer had discussed how much salt the township would be ordering this year. Mesler said that the current plan was to purchase 125 tons. Mesler said this was less than the amount the township ordered last year, noting that the township had only recently accepted the last of the salt it was obligated to from the 2023 contract and had a large surplus following a mild 2023 winter.
Mesler also noted that the township had received the resolution from the state after their prior meeting April 9, but that it needed to be submitted to the state by May 3, prior to trustees May meeting, necessitating the special meeting.
While the meeting agenda originally also included the discussion of the police department's school resource officer contract with the West Branch Local School District, Fiscal Officer Michele Barratt said that the contract, was still being revised by the county prosecutor's office. Once this revision is complete it will be sent to trustees for approval and will then be sent to the school district's attorney for review prior to approval by the board of education. Mesler explained that the revision was necessary to update the contract's language, and that the update was expected to be completed prior to their next meeting.
The board of trustees will meet next 6 p.m. May 14.
