A celebration was held Friday morning to commemorate the completion of the renovation and grand re-opening of the Salem Walmart store 2910. The event featured multiple vendors including Monster Energy and Coca-Cola, and visits from many beloved mascots including Lucky the Leprechaun, the Coca-Cola Polar Bear, the Yellow M&M, and even the Oscar Meyer Weiner Mobile. The update included expansions to several departments including grocery, and pets, full remodels of all restaurants, complete indoor and outdoor repainting and signage updates, and a full repaving and repainting of the parking lot including the addition of several new parking spaces. There re-opening ceremony featured a flag dedication and pledge of allegiance by the Salem AMVETS Post 45 Women's Auxiliary, a performance of the national anthem, patriotic tunes by the Sass-A-Brass band, remarks by Mayor Cyndi Baronzzi Dickey, the distribution of community grants to the Brightside Project, the Way Station, the Down Syndrome Association of the Valley, the Salem Police Department K-9 Unit, Nina's Closet, Heroes and Halos, and the Flemming House, the presentation of longevity awards to 15 staff members who have been with the store since it opened over 20 years ago, a blessing of the building, and a Salem Area Chamber of Commerce Red Ribbon Cutting. The re-opening was described by store management as the second most important day in the store's history, save only the store's original opening day.(Photos by Morgan Ahart)
