COLUMBIANA -- The city's Planning Commission approved the site plan for a new pediatric medical practice in town.
Paul Olivier, who is the administrator for the Akron Children Hospital's area locations, spoke on the Columbiana office's site plan review as the only piece of business on the agenda Tuesday.
He said that Akron has locations in Salem and East Liverpool within Columbiana County and said that the Columbiana location will be devoted to pediatric medicine.
They have a total of 10 locations over three counties, he added.
Dr. Richelle L. Keleman will staff the office at 116 Carriage Drive in the Firestone Farms TownCenter, providing pediatric primary care along with a part-time nurse practitioner.
The hours will be determined by the community need, Olivier said.
Some lab testing will be done on site; however, the majority will have to be done at their Boardman and Akron locations.
Akron is taking over the space that the Salem Regional Medical Center had leased for its primary care office before constructing its own building.
Olivier confirmed there is no plan to add OB-GYN services to the location.
The planning commission approved the site plan as presented as well as waived the need to return for an expansion unless the location address changes.
