Columbiana council gets update on mural project

COLUMBIANA -- Representatives from Columbiana High School updated city officials on the progress of their Garden of Eatin' project Tuesday during council's regular meeting.
Trisha Massos, along with two of her senior Creative Entrepreneur class students -- Danica Halas and Maryn Hepler -- addressed council, updating them on recent developments with their cooperative downtown project.
Halas and Hepler told members they would be back to secure a variance during the March Planning Commission meeting due to the size of the mural to go in the Garden of Eatin' project, which they hope to have completed by fall.
Last year, the project received a maximum grant award of $50,000 from T-Mobile's Hometown Grant program to assist with the project.
Members also were able to view a preliminary sketch of the mural. The artist will add color to the mural when painting it on the wall.
As it was explained, the mural includes a flower representing each of the class's members and will be painted directly on the building instead of her completing the work on vinyl and affixing to the building.
The class will be meeting with council at a later date to firm up the timeline, which will include a dedication of the completed project.
