Leetonia coach on leave for allegations of misconduct

LEETONIA — The Leetonia Bears head softball coach is on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into allegations of misconduct.

According to a press release issued Thursday afternoon by Leetonia Police Chief Allen Haueter, Scott Andre is currently being investigated by the police department’s school resource officer Michael Platt “over issues with juveniles and some other females that are now adults.”

District Superintendent Tony DelBoccio did verify Thursday that Andre, who also worked as a district bus driver, is currently on paid administrative leave.

“The case is being sent to the Columbiana County Prosecutor’s Office to see if charges will be filed or not,” explained Haueter.

Late Wednesday, DelBoccio had informed in an all-call that Andre “had been relieved of his duties due to a pending investigation” and prohibited from being on school grounds.

“Our school district is fully cooperating with law enforcement as they investigate this matter. It should also be expressly noted that the safety of our students and staff is our chief priority. We will continue to follow protocols and procedures that ensure those principles are upheld,” the all-call concluded.

Per a copy of Andre’s personnel file, Andre started as a substitute bus driver before being hired to an one-year contract on Sept. 1, 2022. He was hired as a head softball coach on Jan. 16, 2025 after serving on the team’s volunteer staff.

Andre was notified of his paid administrative status change by Leetonia schools in writing on Feb. 4 and told to “refrain from performing work-related duties” or “discussing the matter with colleagues.”

Neither Haueter nor DelBoccio provided any insight into the nature of the allegations levied against Andre.

Starting at $2.99/week.
