West Branch earns Purple Star School status for 2025-2027
BELOIT – The West Branch Local School District has been designated a Purple Star school for its support of military families.
The Ohio Department of Education & Workforce is recognizing the district for meeting a set of required activities to achieve the designation. Those requirements include a staff member, Mike Helm, serving as the point of contact for military families and a page dedicated on the West Branch website that features resources for military families. Additionally, the school hosted a military recognition night at one of the football games and collected photos of former military personnel that attended the school and displayed a poster in the Fieldhouse lobby.
In a letter issued to the district, Ohio Department of Education & Workforce Director Stephen D. Dackin said, “Ohio’s military-connected youth require supports that consider their unique wellness and academic needs, especially while navigating school transitions. The Purple Star award signifies your school’s demonstrated commitment to serving these students and families.”
The Purple Star designation is valid for three years. The school district will have the opportunity to apply for a designation renewal in fall 2027 to be a member of the Class of 2028.
