HANOVERTON — Despite a steady rainfall during their event, United Local School District officials were pleased with the turnout for their farewell walkthrough and building yard sale Friday night.

Attendees not only got to say goodbye to the existing school building, which is set to be razed this summer since the new building addition is completed, but visitors got the chance to purchase some mementoes that ranged from old basketball uniforms, copies of old yearbooks or even a set of Homer Laughlin China that had predated the building.

The United Local Band Boosters had a somewhat eclectic collection of items, seeking new homes.

According to Brittany Logan, group president, not only did one find available items such as discarded flagline and majorette uniforms, sheet music, and recordings (CD and cassette) of performances, but also a 600-piece set of Homer Laughlin China that the booster club had used for their band banquets way back when.

The Athletic Boosters offered old uniforms, and the Yearbook has plenty of back issues available.

An auction will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 5, in the old building by Kiko Auctioneers for the bulk of no-longer-needed district property, like the wood classroom doors. Winners of lots will have to remove their property within two days, as the district plans to raise the old, no-longer-occupied building fairly quickly.

It is unknown if any of the unplaced items from the farewell sale will find its way into the auction, which will have items like office equipment, large smart TVs, classroom furniture and a sound system already on the list.

Starting at $2.99/week.
