Banner program created in Salem to honor military service

Debbie Leggett, left, and Zach Baker, have come together to form a new program to honor Salem’s service men and women and veterans with banners downtown beginning next spring. SALEM — A new program will honor veterans and active military personnel with a connection to Salem downtown.
Beginning in spring next year Salem OH Military Flags will create custom flags featuring honored veterans or active-duty service members to “be flown proudly throughout downtown.” According to a press release, applications for honored veterans and service members will be available beginning Aug. 1 and can be requested at salemohmilitaryflags@gmail.com. Potential honorees must have been a resident of Salem during their lifetime and must have received an honorable discharge.
The release also states that the initiative was “inspired by Debbie Leggett’s vision to pay tribute to Salem’s military heroes” with the collaboration of Zach Baker, and that sponsorship letters are set to be mailed to area businesses in search of their support to make the project a success.
“Let’s come together as a community to show our gratitude and pride for those who have served and continue to serve our country,” said Leggett.
