1 min read

Salem celebrated Independence Day Thursday at Waterworth Memorial Park with fun for the whole family including bounce houses and inflatable slides and basketball, and face painting sponsored by the parks department ahead of the annual fireworks show at dusk. The celebrations also included the fourth annual hot dog eating contest with both an adult and children's bracket and prices for the top three competitors, and activities from several community organizations including cornhole for prizes by the Salem Community Pantry; a Plinko prize board and face and hand painting by the Salem Public Library; putt-putt golf sponsored by the Curing Retinal Blindness Foundation; and a cornhole tournament sponsored by at-large city councilman candidate George Begalla. Attendees could also purchase concessions on site from the Frytanic, and Island Delights food trucks, and dessert options from Totally 80s Ice Cream.
