Joe Lawhorn of Lisbon, center, became the newest commissioner of the Columbiana County Park District Board after county Probate Court Judge Thomas Baronzzi administered the oath of office Thursday morning at the downtown courthouse in Lisbon. Lawhorn was accompanied by his son, 6-year-old Lincoln, and Park District Board Chairman Eileen Dray-Bardon. Lawhorn was appointed to fill the unexpired term of longtime commissioner Dottie Betz, who resigned on May 14. The term expires on Dec. 31, 2026. Park board members last month reviewed resumes from three people who had expressed an interest in the position. The board’s next meeting is 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the park district office on Maple Street, Lisbon, with a public hearing on the district’s 2026 tax budget at 3 p.m. Lawhorn is known for organizing the Coal Country Roubaix bike race held in the Lisbon area in the spring.
