United building renovations $100K under budget
HANOVERTON — United Local District Superintendent Lance Hostetler shared a little good news with board members during a two-hour special meeting Monday.
He confirmed that material prices have decreased, meaning renovation on the existing building will cost $100,000 less than earlier expected.
As part of the discussion regarding building updates –which were the subject of this special meeting –members also learned that teachers are expected to move into the building by August. Their parking lot should be completed before the scheduled start of school.
Demolition is expected to be completed by the end of September with a temporary ADA-compliant parking lot created.
Concerns were discussed regarding the soccer fields, which currently are having drainage issues.
There was a mention of a possible new greenhouse being donated to the district by an unidentified alumni.
The district’s LFO, aka Locally Funded Other, account currently holds approximately $900,000 in unallocated funds with an additional $800,000 in interest.
In United Local’s case, it includes property taxes and revenue from the Nexus gas pipeline and compression station within the district, which allowed district administrators to avoid going back to the taxpayers for the construction project.
When the project is completed, some state and local funds also will be returned.
Ultimately board members unanimously did approve both the GMP (Guaranteed Maximum Price) amendment and GMP itemized statement after getting clarification as well as the proposed LFO work contract with Hammond Construction.
In the accompanying documentation, Hammond has to have all the work completed by June 26, 2026.
The contract sum is not to exceed $4,688,341.48 subject to additions and deductions by change order.
