Columbiana County Health District’s vital stats program will be temporarily offline Wednesday

LISBON — The Columbiana County Health District announced that the vital statistics program will be temporarily offline Wednesday morning to transition to a new statewide vital records system.

That means the department won’t be able to certify, file or issue birth and death certificates, approve burial or cremation permits or register home births for a brief time on Wednesday.

Once the system goes live later that day, full operations will be resumed.

The county health district issued a press release Monday regarding the long awaited new system, saying, “Our registrar and deputy registrar, who work in this program, have been preparing since December 2024, participating in extensive training to ensure a seamless transition. They are committed to maintaining the same high level of service that our customers have grown to expect.”

Anyone needing assistance during the transition can call directly at 330-424-0272 and personnel will collect the person’s information and process their request as soon as the new system is active.

Fees for certified birth and death certificates will remain $27 at this time. The district can provide birth certificates for anyone born in Ohio, regardless of their current state or county of residence.

Death certificates are provided for individuals who passed away within the county health district jurisdiction. Deaths that occur within Salem and East Liverpool city limits must be obtained through their respective city health districts.

Service options include: VitalChek at www.columbiana-health.org/vital-statistics/; by mail using the online application; by phone; or in person at the office at 7360 state Route 45, Lisbon.

Same-day shipping is available for online birth certificate orders received by 3:30 p.m.

No out-of-state checks can be accepted. If paying by check, make sure the information matches the valid, non-expired driver’s license. Credit and debit card are accepted through VitalChek for an additional $7 processing fee. Genealogy requests are processed as time permits.
