SALEM — The board of education approved the hire of three new staff members in a brief special meeting Monday.

The board voted unanimously to approve the hire of elementary teachers Niccole Nichols and Diana Wallace for the 2025-2026 school, whose positions are tentatively slated to be at Buckeye and Reilly elementary schools, respectively. The board also approved the award of a Salem Education Association bid for a third elementary teaching position for the 2025-2026 school year for Wendy Higgins, which is tentatively slated to be at Southeast Elementary.

Treasurer Mike Douglas also told the board that they would need to schedule another special meeting next week to approve a necessary resolution for the K-8 school building project ahead of an Aug. 29 deadline, with the date still to be determined.

The board of education will meet next at 7 p.m. on Sept. 15.
