LISBON — From Friday Kahlo’s raw vulnerable self portraits to Mary Cassatt’s portrayal of mother-child relationships told through impressionist strokes to Georgia O’Keeffe’s ability to capture emotions and energy through bold colors to Annie Lebovitz’s provocative approach to photography, women artists have proven to be not only trailblazers but true talents in the world of art.

In the spirit of these women, in the spirit of experience impacting expression and in the spirit of viewing today and tomorrow through a women’s gaze, the Columbiana County Democratic Women’s Caucus (CCDWC) will host a free art show showcasing local women artists and continuing an artistic dialogue from the point of view of the women who call Columbiana County home.

“A Woman’s Perspective Experienced Through Art” opens Friday at CCDWC Headquarters at 134 S. Market St., Lisbon.

“Art is a powerful medium that allows us to express ourselves freely and process the world around us,” said event organizer Joyce Campian. “This show will highlight the lived experiences of Columbiana County women, answering questions like, ‘How will it be different looking forward? How are our experiences different from those of generations before us? What have women gained and lost? How is this perspective different for different cultures? How is this perspective for you personally?'”

According to the CCDWC, the show is meant to examine “actual phenomena, policies, processes and progress through a woman’s perspective.”

The exhibit is an extension of an art installation that debuted at the Carroll County Arts Center in May 2025. The show featured pieces from a number of women, including artists from the CCDWC. The art proved poignant, powerful and provocative and focused on lived experience, offered social commentary and rejected social constructs.

“It was very well received, bringing in visitors from all around Ohio,” Campian said. “We’re excited to bring the creativity and talent to Columbiana County.”

Aside from a “roomful of beautiful, thoughtful and thought provoking art,” Friday’s opening, which begins at 6 p.m and concludes at 9 p.m., will also feature live music by Susan Hagan, refreshments and “lively conversation.”

The exhibit will then run through the month of September — Sept. 13, 14 and 24 from 1 to 3 p.m., Sept. 16 and 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sept. 26 from 4 to 6 p.m. Doors to the event show will also be open during the Johnny Appleseed Festival.

Starting at $2.99/week.
