Former police chief in jail for assault faces new charge for tire slashing incident
LISBON — A new charge related to a tire slashing incident earlier this month has been filed against Jayson W. Jackson, the former Liverpool Township police chief currently serving 19 days in jail for assault.
Jackson, 52, Liverpool Township, appeared via video for arraignment Tuesday before Columbiana County Municipal Court Judge Kelly Linger for a misdemeanor charge of criminal damaging, with a pretrial set for Sept. 25.
Jackson’s bond was set at $5,000 cash or surety and he was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
Jackson reported as ordered Monday to the Columbiana County jail to begin serving the 19 days for the assault, which was amended from domestic violence and occurred in December 2024. He was scheduled to face a jury trial next week for the domestic violence charge, but instead opted recently to plead no contest to the amended charge of assault and was found guilty.
The prosecution had filed a motion to revoke his $20,000 cash or surety bond for the case due to an incident Sept. 2 when he allegedly slashed the assault victim’s tires in violation of a no contact order that was a requirement of the bond. The motion was withdrawn due to the plea. Linger fined Jackson $1,000 for the assault charge and sentenced him to 180 days in the county jail, with 160 days suspended and credit for one day served, leaving the balance of 19 days still to serve.
He also was ordered to complete 50 hours community service, be evaluated for alcohol/substance abuse, anger management and general mental health and take all medication as prescribed. He’s prohibited from consuming or possessing alcoholic beverages or entering any premise serving alcohol as its primary business. He must make every effort to obtain employment within 60 days.
As part of the terms of three years probation, he must have no contact or communication with the victim, with the no contact order in effect until Sept. 9, 2028.
Jackson was accused of choking a woman and giving her a bloody nose on Dec. 4, 2024. He had served many years as a police officer and then chief before leaving sometime between late December 2021 and early January 2022.
