United board agrees to retain district’s therapy dog
HANOVERTON — United Local is still apparently a dog friendly campus, even with its new building.
Board members voted Wednesday night to bring their district therapy dog back for another school year during their regular meeting.
Building principals reported that everything is going well in the new digs.
While middle school principal Frank Baker confirmed there are enough desks and tables within classrooms, additional tables are being sought for the cafeteria as some students have to eat in the media center and outside dining area because of seating issues.
This year, homecoming is slated to be held in the cafeteria much to the pleasure of excited seniors who are brainstorming about decorations and potential themes.
So far, the three days of counseling per week through Community Action Agency is going well. There is no cost for the six counselors, which are paid through a grant.
Superintendent Lance Hostetler said they are still compiling a punch list in relation to the new building, which may need spending in the near future. Furniture, fencing along state Route 9, HVAC and roofing needs done on the remodel while updates are still needed for the preschool area.
Estimates are the building project will take almost a year and a half to be completed.
The school board met for a half hour executive session to discuss employment of personnel near the conclusion of the meeting. No action was taken.
The next meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8 in the media center.
