COLUMBIANA — No one can accuse shop owner Jane Bohrer of shying away from controversy, as she picks up the spellbinding torch from the city’s chamber of commerce.
Sponsored by her shop, The Rustic Birdcage, the Witch Walk on Main is back Saturday, Oct. 4 in downtown Columbiana for its third year.
When the Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce laid off its director, who coordinated events like the Witch Walk, it was game over for the event until Bohrer stepped in.
Having assisted with the Witch Walk in the past as a chamber member, Bohrer agreed to take over the event, which is described as a “whimsical day of magical merriment.”
The day’s festivities kick off at noon with a dog costume contest at Paws On Main, which has added a bobbing for body parts and spooky sniffy graveyard for this year.
Then some of the most popular events from previous years follow, including witch dance instruction by the Columbiana Performing Arts; costume contests for adults, children and families; the cackling contest and then broom racing.
There is no charge for admission. Attendees are encouraged to dress the part.
Beetlejuice once again is scheduled to emcee many of the contests.
Food trucks, face painting, a bounce house, games, a selfie station and event swag also are available.
Storefronts and vendors will announce raffle basket winners later in the day, before the Full Circle Band provides several hours of live music.
This will be a DORA (Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area) event with proceeds from the Vintage Saloon, which will be operating a popup bar selling adult beverages to benefit Shaker Woods Helping Hands.
