Preliminary hearing set for man charged in knife attack
LISBON — A man accused of running up and attacking another man with two knives, causing multiple knife wounds to the victim on Aug. 23 in East Liverpool, is scheduled to face a preliminary/pretrial hearing Oct. 23.
Grant Michael Goodballet, 27, last known address Bank Street, East Liverpool and also with a Youngstown address, appeared Tuesday in Columbiana County Municipal Court for arraignment.
He’s charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony, third-degree felony intimidation of a crime victim/witness and two counts of misdemeanor domestic violence for three separate incidents, including the knife attack.
An affidavit describing the knife attack said the victim was standing near a burn barrel on Bank Street, East Liverpool when he heard his attacker coming toward him, turned around and saw him running toward him while swinging unknown items that were later identified as two knives.
The victim stepped to the side and pushed Goodballet to the ground, suffering an estimated 1-inch cut that was a half-inch deep to his right wrist that needed five stitches. He then saw Goodballet swinging multiple knives at him. The victim suffered multiple knife wounds to his arms, neck, back and shoulder.
On Sept. 21, Goodballet allegedly called a woman and told her the victim needs to tell police that he lied and to drop the charges or he’ll kill him and his kids if he doesn’t.
The two domestic violence charges stem from an incident in East Liverpool on July 21 when he allegedly pulled a woman’s hair while she was driving and threw a lit cigarette at her. He also pulled the hair of a man in the vehicle, placing his hand over his neck.
Goodballet’s bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety and he remained in the county jail.
