Lisbon council retains all three incumbents, welcomes back Morenz in Tuesday’s election
LISBON — Voters in Lisbon allowed incumbents Melissa Hiner, Jerry Cox and Sue Temple to continue to serve the village as council members and welcomed back former councilman Joe Morenz after Tuesday’s election.
In a race of seven candidates vying for four seats, current council president Melissa Hiner led the unofficial tally with 17.61% of the votes, followed by Cox with 15.53%, Morenz with 15.46% and Temple with 14.39%
Left on the outside looking in were Joe Vitko, a 27-year-old village resident who ran for office for the first time, Jereme Kliner and Patricia Kronenberg, garnering 14.10%, 13.39% and 9.52%, respectively.
Hiner was first elected in 2021. Hiner has a daughter Chloe and is the current Village of East Palestine Finance Director and the former City of Salem Deputy Auditor.
Cox won a third term. He is married to Krista Zahrndt-Cox and has three children, a stepson, and four grandchildren and currently owns and manages J & K Properties.
Temple was first elected in 2019 and re-elected in 2021. She worked for 34 years at Belmont Properties as office manager and has been a resident of the village since 1998.
Aside from previously serving on village council, Morenz is a U.S. Army veteran and former Lisbon mayor. He owns and operates Serious Carpet Cleaning with his wife Angel.
Longtime councilman Tom Darcy chose not to re-run for council.
