Woman gets jail time for false claims in malnourished dog case

LISBON — A woman who apparently lied after claiming she witnessed an unknown person abandoning an extremely malnourished dog on the side of the road in East Liverpool must serve seven days in jail for making false alarms.

Paula D. Parks, 42, Y & O Road, East Liverpool, was fined $500 and sentenced to 90 days in jail, with 75 days suspended and credit for eight days already served in jail, leaving the seven-day balance to serve. She also was ordered to complete 40 hours community service and was barred from having companion animals.

According to the police affidavit, Parks reported the dog was abandoned knowing that such an offense did not occur. Through an investigation, police learned that she did in fact harbor the malnourished dog. The incident of alleged animal cruelty was reported on Nov. 16 in the area of Ravine and Bradshaw Avenue in East Liverpool.
