Columbiana hires new police sergeant
COLUMBIANA — The city has a new police sergeant.
During Tuesday’s regular meeting, municipal attorney Mark Hutson swore in Brandon Ericsson as the city’s newest police sergeant, after his promotion earlier by council.
Ericsson joined CPD in 2012 as a part-time officer and became full-time two years later.
Previously he had served as a D.A.R.E. officer and a handler for K-9 Bax.
Also at the meeting, council approved the first reading of a new contract between city and the patrolman’s union. The three-year contract includes a wage increase of 3 percent each year.
In other action, council approved:
— A request by the Fairfield Ruritan Club to hold its annual car show from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 19, on South Main Street.
— Second readings of legislation amending the rates associated with admission and rentals of the Firestone Park pool.
— First reading of an update to the zoning ordinance to reflect changes to make a property in the 100 block of Maple Drive from residential to ADV for construction of a building to house the Joy For Christmas displays in the off-season.
