Nominations sought for Historic Reilly Banner Program 2026 class

SALEM – The Salem Preservation Society is seeking nominations for the Historic Reilly Banner Program.

According to a press release, the Preservation Society is inviting the community to join its members “in celebrating those people whose lives were touched or changed forever” by their participation in activities at Sebo Stadium by nominating them to be memorialized with a banner which will hang on East Pershing Street in front of the stadium.

To make a nomination the banner committee asks participants to list the nominee’s name, how they were involved with the stadium, whether that be through a sport, music, or other activity, and a short paragraph explaining why they feel the nominee deserves to be honored and “how the nominee’s life was ‘touched’ or ‘affected’ by” the former Reilly Stadium. Nominations can be submitted by email to grantm0267@att.net, or by mail to Salem Preservation, PO Box 1034, Salem, OH 44460. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 28.

The banner program unveiled its first class of banners in 2016 featuring local icons like DJ Alan Freed who coined the term “rock and roll;” attorney, politician, general, and the stadium’s former namesake James Reilly, whose estate paid for the original purchase of the land for the stadium; and local philanthropist and current namesake Bob Sebo. Since 2016, a new class of honorees has been nominated and selected annually, with the banner class of 2026 set to be the 10th since the program’s inception.

Starting at $2.99/week.
