West Branch board reviews bullying report

BELOIT — The West Branch Board of Education was presented with the district’s bullying report in its meeting Thursday.

District policy requires the superintendent to present the board of education with semi-annual reports on any bullying incidents which occur in the district. Superintendent Pro-Tempore Matt Manley said that the report covered the first semester of the 2025-2026 school year, and that it would be posted to the district’s website.

Manley told the board that the district had received three reports during the first semester, and that of those three only one led to a confirmed case of bullying requiring investigation and administrative action in accordance with district policy. He also assured the board that district administrators take a proactive approach in addressing and reporting any issues of bullying or harassment.

The board also approved several personnel and administrative matters.

Administrative matters approved included: permission for the fifth-grade class to travel to the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania on May 15; membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association for the 2026-2027 school year; participation in the College Credit Plus Option with Youngstown State University for high school students for the 2026-2027 school year; a resolution to declare a facilities emergency and authorize action to address fire suppression water supply deficiencies; joining the Ohio Education Policy Institute for calendar year 2026 at a cost of $1,000.

Personnel matters approved included: the retirements of custodian Rick Estes effective April 17, high school math teacher Wendy Lough effective May 21, and nutrition assistant Lynn Popa effective Aug. 1; and an athletic supplemental for girls varsity wrestling assistant Luke Bardo.

The meeting concluded with an executive session to discuss the employment of a public official and to consider matters required to be kept confidential by federal law or rules or state statutes.

The board of education will meet next at 6 p.m. on Feb. 19.

Starting at $2.99/week.
