Columbiana school board deals with personnel matters

COLUMBIANA — Midyear, personnel matters dominated the agenda at the Columbiana school board’s March meeting Tuesday night.

Board members:

— Accepted the retirement of secretary Bonnie Steeb effective July 31.

— Hired Pamela Barrett as a cook/cashier for the remainder of this school year.

— Added James Fantone and Lisa Bucholtz-Devereaux to the long-term substitute roster.

— Employed Emily McComas as choreographer for the spring musical; Lauryn Barton as assistant softball coach; Ashley O’Neill as a substitute support staff member as well as Patrick Tofil and Cameron Fortune as middle school assistant track coaches.

— Renewed a memorandum of understanding with Vision To Learn, which provides vision screenings and related service effective as of Jan. 23 .

— Approved both the education affiliation service agreement for school counseling as well as a field placement agreement with Youngstown State University.

— Approved both an additional service contract with the Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio and an agreement with ACCESS for internet and application services to run during the next school year.

— Upgraded their threat alert system with Threat Extinguisher to include a WiFi radio upgrade, upgraded buttons, batteries and an annual license fee.

The next board meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, in the high school media center.
