Wellsville man pleads guilty to escape, other charges and is sentenced to 2 years in prison

LISBON — A man facing charges of escape, possession of a deadly weapon, vandalism, criminal damaging and drug counts from multiple incidents was recently sentenced to 24 months in prison.

Bradley Michael Cianni, 40, last known address Riverside Avenue, Wellsville, pleaded guilty in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court to charges from five separate cases, including third-degree felony escape from when he was an inmate of the Columbiana County jail.

Cianni, who had been in jail for charges related to the other cases, had been taken to East Liverpool City Hospital for medical treatment on Jan. 6 from the jail, with an electronic tracking device attached to him. A county sheriff’s office report said he was admitted and told if he left the hospital grounds, he would be charged with escape.

At 2:25 a.m. Jan. 8, East Liverpool City Hospital notified the sheriff’s office that Cianni removed the electronic tracking monitor and left the hospital in a wheelchair with an IV and a gown, according to the sheriff’s report. He was later caught the same day and placed back in jail, where he had been since being arrested Dec. 27, 2025 on a bench warrant.

Besides the escape charge, he also pleaded guilty to possession of a deadly weapon while under detention, a fifth-degree felony, for possessing a cane with a blade inside on April 23, 2025 while under detention. He pleaded guilty to a fifth-degree felony vandalism charge and two counts misdemeanor criminal damaging for damaging a sink and a mattress while he was an inmate at the county jail on July 16, 2025.

He also pleaded guilty to two counts of fifth-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs and misdemeanors of illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drug abuse instruments for possessing methamphetamine, paraphernalia and drug abuse instruments such as syringes on Sept. 11, 2024 and for possessing methamphetamine on Feb. 15, 2025.

Cianni received credit for 63 days served in jail.
