East Palestine sisters will travel to Washington, D.C. to participate in the annual White House Easter Egg Roll

EAST PALESTINE -- A pair of East Palestine sisters will travel to Washington, D.C. with their Easter best outfits this weekend to participate in the annual White House Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn Monday morning.

The lucky young ladies are Paisley Johnston, 8, and her sister Cora Johnston, 4, whose mom Lindsay Johnston, grandma Traci Ketchum and grandpa Rich Ketchum will be joining them for the festivities.

According to their grandma Traci, the girls have been entered in the lottery for the Easter Egg Roll and activities since birth and this year, the family finally received emails saying they were selected to take part.

"We're just so excited to go," Traci said.

The girls will be dressed in red, white and blue while they visit some of the Washington, D.C. landmarks like the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument. Then on Monday morning, they'll don their Easter outfits and comfortable shoes for their time slot between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. Besides the Easter Egg Roll, which is a White House tradition dating back to 1878, there will be an egg hunt, storytelling and arts and crafts, with President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump usually attending.

Paisley is a second grader at Heartland Christian School in Columbiana and Cora gets excited at the site of a U.S. flag. Traci promised to get lots of photos.

The deadline for this year's lottery system is already past, but for next year, visit recreation.gov and do a search for The White House Easter Egg Roll to register for a chance to take part. This year, the lottery registration opened on Feb. 26 and closed March 4.
