Box truck accident closes Route 45 Thursday morning

SALEM — Both lanes of state Route 45 from Somerset Drive in Perry Township to state Route 558/Teegarden Road in Salem Township were closed for a short time Thursday morning after a northbound box truck overturned.

Trooper Nathan Bowlen of the Lisbon Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the box truck traveled off of the right side of the road, struck a culvert, a utility pole and a mail box before overturning on its side and striking another utility pole at 8:18 a.m.

The accident occurred just north of what’s known as the ski slope area near a storage business between state Route 558/Teegarden Road and Salem Grange Road. The driver, who wasn’t identified, was transported to a hospital with suspected minor injuries. The accident remains under investigation.

The road was initially down to one lane, but then when it was time to pull the box truck out, both lanes had to be shut down. The Ohio Department of Transportation posted the closing on ohgo.com as of 11:23 a.m. Thursday due to the crash, but then the road was reopened by noon.

Starting at $2.99/week.
